Gear Review: Snuggly Toes Foot Warmer Insoles.

Being a diabetic I always have a problem with cold feet due to my neuropathy.  I am always looking for ways to help keep my feet warm during the winter.  I live in the Rockies and our elevation is right around 5000 feet above sea level.  Once winter sets in we get hammered with a storm about once a week and it stays pretty cold so I have quite a chore keeping my feet warm.

I have found the answer to my problem.  Snuggly Toes foot warmers   They are made from Alpaca wool and are densely woven and then felted so that they stay together.  During the winter I mainly wear my Sorel pack-boots to keep my feet warm and dry.  Because Sorel makes their inserts out of felt they have a tendency to matt down and thin out on the bottoms.  This is where Snuggly Toes inserts come in.  They help to bring the thickness os the inserts back up and at the same time the added insulation and the added warmth from the Alpaca wool keep my feet toasty warm.

I just used these inserts to go on an ice fishing trip with my brother.  When we got up early that morning we checked the temp at my brothers house and it was sitting just below -22 degrees at his house in the valley and we were going to a large lake up at about 8000 feet.  It was going to be quite a bit colder than the valley for sure.  Every time I have been ice fishing my feet have always been the problem. I can never seem to get them warm enough.  Well this trip I was surprised to find that with the new inserts in my feet stayed nice and warm and comfortable all day.

I really like the 'alpaca' inserts. with the exception of Merino Wool, nothing else even comes close to Alpaca for heat retention. Being a diabetic, poor circulation is the problem, especially in the extremities. One little trick I've learned is to sprinkle a bit of Cayenne pepper in your socks before going out in the cold. Because Cayenne, when used topically is a 'Rubefacient' (brings blood to the skin surface), will increase increase the blood circulation around your feet and help keep you warm.
This really works.

Whenever I have been ice sportfishing my legs have always been the issue. I can never seem to get them heated enough.
