What did you do for National Gun Appreciation Day??

Saturday the 19th of January was Gun Appreciation Day throughout the nation.  As for me I went up to a gathering at my state capitol building.  There were thousands in attendance.  I was amazed at how many people showed up as it was about 5 degrees Fahrenheit out side and nothing to block the breeze that was blowing.
It was a very inspiring gathering.  A large percentage of the crowd were military vet's like me.  They had a Southern Baptist minister do the invocation and a short sermon on how the Bible tells us to arm and protect ourselves.  He quoted many different scriptures that all said basically the same thing and that is arm yourself to protect your family from harm.  I am not a religious man at all but hearing him talk about it and he being a gun owner himself was pretty awesome.
There was also a Representative from the House of Representatives on had that is putting legislation up to forbid federal agents from enforcing the new gun laws in our state. His speech was very inspiring and brings me back a little faith that some of our elected officials are really listening to what we want.

I came away from the gathering with a new found sense of hope and brotherhood that I lacked before.  We can affect change if we just stand up for what's right and work very hard.  This is the start of a revolution to take our country back from the rich, corrupt politicians and business interest that are trying to suck us dry.  It is a revolution from within and it is gaining power each and every time we gather together and say "NO MORE"  this is as far as we will let you go.

My two BILs and I went down to the County layout and joined a few thousand others.  After that we visited every damn gun shop in the greater Toledo Area... all of em.

I'm sure this will be a bit controversial, but here goes.  While I'm all for protesting things, I'm wondering what the long-term ramifications of showing up at state houses and gun shops will be??  My point is that the over-reaching government could very well use these gatherings to mark and remember these people as those to pay special attention to if things get a bit interesting in the future.  Are we drawing the wrong kind of attention to ourselves by doing this??  Seems like a catch 22 overall.......

I took a friend and blog reader out to the private range I belong to and we turned money into smoke and noise.
I wasn't the only one bringing a guest. I would say about 1/3 of the 85 or so people at the club were guests.

My point is that the over-reaching government could very well use these
gatherings to mark and remember these people as those to pay special

Granite Prepper,
I understand your concern and share part of it myself. But if the state is going to mark someone, we've probably been on that list for a long while. We blog or comment on blogs, we stock pile (if you haven't paid cash for everything, they can get a decent idea), If you have a Concealed Carry Permit, if you have sent a letter or called your Federal Senator or Rep. did you know all phone calls into and out of D.C. are traceable?

I don't think we are drawing the wrong attention any more than any resistance to big government would draw.

Granite Prepper,
I understand your concerns and have shared them. I finally came to the point that one has to make a stand. We have good reason to fear our Government as did the Founding Fathers. They took a stand knowing the cost could be their lives, we are being called to take the same risk today.
The FED'S already come to the gun shows and take down our plate numbers to see who is there. So take courage and don't let the oppressors keep you down. Hang in there and spit in their face and do not go quietly into the darkness that's comming.

 Thanks Bob_S and Danny Lee,

I agree with your positions and was more wondering what others think??  I also agree that all of us who post on these blogs are marked already.  Finally, as a member of Oath Keepers, I do stand for the defense of the Constitution.....it is truly time to stand!!  Thanks for the refresher!!

 Granite Prepper,

Sorry to take so long to respond but I was thinking about your question.

Tam over at View From The Porch blog talked about people lining up at the gunshows; not to turn in the guns but to become stakeholders in our 2nd Amendment Rights.

I am the membership secretary for a private gun club; we are seeing more people asking about joining, an increase in applications and more people showing up to the range.
These people aren't joining/showing up just to make it easy for the feds to collect things.

What I see is more and more people taking a stand (like you are doing) and saying enough. This is a continuation of the TEA Party movement, it is an awakening of the will of the people.

I talk to many different people and I'm finding folks who previously had not expressed any opinion speaking up in favor of our rights.

Hope that helps answer your question.

It is a trend from within and it is getting energy each and whenever we collect together and say "NO MORE"  this is as far as we will let you go.

Thanks Bob_S for your thoughtful response.  Couldn't agree more as I see the exact same things.  It does appear that now is the time to stand and be counted.....
